What do We Have to Fear?

"But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will
send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all
that I have said to you" (John 14:26). In the Upper Room with Jesus, these
were powerful and reassuring words for troubled disciples to hear. It wouldn’t
be until after the coming Holy Spirit that the disciples would understand the significance
and the power of the Him. When Peter stood to preach at Pentecost, the
indwelling Holy Spirit erased all the doubt, fear and failure enabling Peter to
powerfully share the truths of God and the promises fulfilled.
"Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we
do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for
us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is
the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according
to the will of God" (Romans 8:26-27). Verse 34 of this passage also
reminds us that the Risen Christ is at the Father's right hand, "who
indeed is interceding for us." When words fail because the pain is too
great, the Spirit prays, the Father understands, and the Son intercedes. What
have we to fear?
