Betrayal

In John 13:27b-30 we see that Satan entered Judas and then
Jesus told Judas, “What you are going to do, do quickly.” The other disciples
did not even suspect that Judas was the one that would betray Jesus even after
Jesus showed them in the earlier, in John 13:25-26. They did not understand
what Jesus meant and assumed Judas was being sent to pay for the food or give
money to the poor since he was their treasurer. Judas then ran out into the
night.
Meditating on these verses I reflected on how Judas had
spent so much time with Jesus. He sat at
the feet of Jesus, hearing and learning from the Savior. What a privilege for
Judas to be in the presence of the Savior. Jesus loved Judas as He loved the
other disciples even though He knew that Judas would betray him. Just as Judas
went out to betray Jesus, we often sin against God in our daily lives. Are we
looking to proclaim the gospel to our neighbors who so desperately need Christ?
Or are our hearts distracted and led astray so that we betray the one who has
given His life for us? Jesus will give us the power through the Spirit to
boldly proclaim the gospel and glorify Him.

THIS: Like Judas, we too rebel against God when we are ashamed of
the Gospel. Confess, repent, and ask for God’s power to obey! #UpperRoom
